What Is The Education Of A Chiropractor?

Becoming A Chiropractor How does one become a Doctor of Chiropractic and earn a D.C. degree?

The requirements to enter chiropractic school are virtually identical to those required of a medical school. University level courses must first be completed in subjects such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, anatomy, biology, physiology and other courses in the sciences and liberal arts. Mark Leoni, D.C., spent 5 years at California State University, Northridge.

To attain a chiropractic degree requires completion of 5 academic years of chiropractic school. In addition to classroom work, training includes an internship program where student chiropractors take care of patients under the supervision of experienced chiropractic doctors. Students may also serve an externship program where they work with a practicing doctor in a private office.

How does Chiropractic School Compare to Medical School?

A lot of people ask how chiropractic education compares to medical education. Since both professions work with the human body, there is much similarity in their studies, but there are important differences as well. The chart on this page compares medical and chiropractic education. It was compiled from a review of the curriculum catalogues of 22 medical schools and 11 chiropractic colleges and updates from the National Health Federation Bulletin.

State Licensure

Every state in America has laws for licensing chiropractors. After a chiropractor successfully completes Chiropractic College, they have to pass a state license exam to earn the right to practice. Mark Leoni D.C. holds licenses in his home state of California and Arizona.
